Taking mobile photography to new heights with ShoulderPod

The world of aerial photography via helicopter was often exclusive to professionals with massive budgets.

Traditional private photo flights used to cost thousands, but with a highly engaged social media audience driving demand, FlyNYON was able to perfect a crowdsourced model with doors off jet-engine helicopter photo flights starting at $199 per person. We opened up the aerial photography market beyond pros to amateurs and enthusiasts. It doesn’t matter if your camera is a top of the line DSLR or a smartphone, FlyNYON is the ultimate photo experience for everyone.

The freedom from glare by taking off the doors is balanced by a strict safety code. Everything is attached by a tether to a harness, and in turn to the airframe. Cameras have straps, but smartphones typically are more seamless in design. We were able to source a locking tethered case for the iPhone 5, 6 & 6 Plus, but over time, demand increased for supporting legacy models, Android, and of course the next best thing.

That is where ShoulderPod comes to the rescue. After initial testing with the ShoulderPod S1 passing our flight operations approval, we’ve adopted the G1 + H1 system to support any and all phones our photographers want to capture their experience. The integrated handle makes it easier to control video shots, and the adjustable grip allows us to support virtually any smartphone on the market. Even the just released iPhone 7.
